“Elif Shafak, a prominent Turkish prose writer and advocate of LGBTI rights and freedom of expression, came out as a bisexual at TED Talk”,- writes Gaystarnews.com.
In her speech, Shafak told that she had never had the courage to say in a public space that she herself was a bisexual.
As I was thinking about this TED talk, I realized one thing: I have never had the courage to say in a public space that I myself am a bisexual. Because I so feared the slander, stigma, ridicule and hatred that was sure to follow. But of course one should never ever remain silent for fear of complexity,” she said.
Her speech, titled “The Revolutionary Power of Diverse Thought”, Shafak had at TedGlobal in New York in September.
The writer used her speech to remind people of being world citizens and about the beauty of diversity.
In Shafak’s words, she has become “a global soul, a world citizen, a wanderer and a traveling historian”.
