I will stop this chain of violence: an interview with Alok Vide-Menon

Alok Vide-Menon is a famous performance artist, writer, educator. Over the past ten years, he has participated in various feminist, queer and trans-movements.

His unique style, political humour, and his poetic contradictions against the binary gender system have received an international response. Indian origin Alok, born and raised in Texas, USA, began poetizing to endure racism and hatred towards transwomen. He has a Bachelor’s Degree in Feminist and Ethnic Research and a Master’s Degree in Sociology.

Since 2013, he has been working with the Audrey Lorde LGBT community organizational centre. Alok became a public figure with Djanani Balasubramaniam due to their artistic duet entitled Dark Matter presenting their work to all over the world. In 2017, Dark Matter finished its activity, and from that moment, Alok has continuing his work as a solo artist.

Alok has recently visited Armenia to take part in a number of events, and LGBTnews has posed its questions to the artist.
